The Coupling Bucking Machine is designed to remove and install couplings on tubing and casing. The power tong has five cam-mounted jaws that grip the coupling and turn it bi-directionally. A stationary “rotary backup” with five jaws grips the pipe and releases after the coupling is removed or installed. A torque gauge is mounted on the tong to ensure proper torque application. The power tong is driven by a heavy-duty hydraulic motor and dual output pump and is driven by a diesel engine. Available in a heavy-duty skid or 2-axle trailer configuration.
Technical and Performance Data | |
Capacity: | 2" to 5 1/2" O.D. tubing and casing (with coupling) |
Torque: | High speed - 300 to 1300 ft lbs (152.4 mm) Low Speed - 6,000 ft lbs |
Engine: | Diesel engine has electric start and is air-cooled |
Hydraulic Pump: | Dual gear type, 33 GPM @1800 rpm/ 2,500 psi max rated |
The pipe with coupling is inserted into the center of the tong and pushed back into the rotary backup. The operator closes the jaws with the use of hydraulic controls and removes (bucks) the coupling. The jaws can be reversed to install the coupling as well. The amount of torque applied is monitored by the hydraulic pressure gauge. Once the operation is complete, the pipe is removed from the bucking machine. A typical coupling will take only seconds to remove or install.
